| History
of The Timberlake Herb Store
Over 200
years ago the Timberlake Family came to Louisburg NC and built a
thriving General Store to supply the farmers in the area. It sold
everything including mules, carriages, seeds, fertilizers, shoes and
clothing. There was a cotton gin and a blacksmith shop behind the
store.
It has
remained in the Timberlake Family being owned now by the great
grandchildren of the original founders. |

When
I first found the Timberlake Store it was overgrown with weeds, rusted out
refrigerators, stoves, miscellaneous junk and garbage. I was drawn
to ask about caring for it, and so the clean-up began...new electrical
wiring, a septic tank and well, fresh paint. We found the old store
counters in a barn, and other treasures...a huge bellows from the
blacksmith's shop, the scales for weighing cotton, old boards that had
served as shelves, and the old accounting ledgers. |
